Ask any Appalachian Trail thru hiker and you’ll hear that it’s the adventure of a lifetime. The majority of the trail is in forest or wild lands, although some portions traverse towns, roads, and farms.

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail (or simply the AT), is a runs between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine, passing through North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The trail is approximately 2,200 miles long (the length changes over time as parts are modified or rerouted), the longest hiking-only trail in the world. It is managed by the National Park Service, United States Forest Service, and the nonprofit Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

Preparation for a thru hike or to just hike a portion of the AT is imperative to your success. Whether you’re planning on joining the Class of 2018 hikers or might head out in the future, stop by to chat with one of our AT hikers and experts.
